Intro to Cold Wax + Oil Painting Workshop

I’m happy to announce that I will be holding two Cold Wax + Oil Painting workshops in my Merville, BC studio this fall. I’ve been working in this medium for seven years and love how it allows me to add texture and layers to my paintings. If you’d like to find out more about cold wax painting and would like to spend two days experimenting and playing with the medium, this workshop may be for you.

My classes are small, a maximum of 4 students, so you will receive lots of individual instruction. I’ll be supplying all the materials and tools so you just need to bring a desire to have fun exploring a new medium.

There are two sessions to choose from, a weekend as well as a week day session. If those dates don’t work for you please email me to discuss other possible workshop dates.

Intro to Cold Wax + Oil Painting

2-day Workshop

Cold wax is an oil painting medium that, when mixed with oil paint, adds body and transparency to the paint. It also speeds up the drying time which enables us to layer the paint, add texture and excavate back down through the built up layers. This introductory class will give you an understanding of the oil and cold wax medium with two days of exploration with various tools, textures and techniques. There will be a demo and talk each day then we will jump into playing and creating with oil and cold wax. We will work on Arches oil paper as well as on wood cradle boxes. All of the materials and tools will be supplied – just bring your sense of fun and creativity! The classes, in my home studio in Merville, are 3-4 people only so the instruction is personal with time for individual mentoring.

Bring a lunch, and an apron, old shirt or wear old clothes.
